Clean up the energy bill!
Months ago, the President's budget and draft legislation called for serious
efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and to support renewable energy
production.
The House of Representatives has finally passed an omnibus energy bill,
but it is one that offers free pollution credits to energy companies, reduces
support for renewable energy, and offers taxpayer money for nuclear power
plants. The bill was in large measure created by committees meeting
behind closed doors with representatives of the coal, oil, and nuclear
industries.
Neither America nor the world can afford this business-as-usual approach
to climate change. We must begin to act now to reduce global warming,
stop the rise in sea levels, and reverse the trend to more destructive
weather patterns.
Please work for an energy bill that puts the welfare of citizens and our
children ahead of the profits of special interests.
Sincerely yours
