House for passing the bill, urges the Senate to do the same, and asks the
support of the President and Vice President.
Dear: _________________
Matthew Shepard symbolizes the innocent thousands who suffer vicious
attacks because of race, sexual orientation, religion, or other aspects of
their character that they have every right to assert.
When the House passed the Matthew Shepard Act on a bipartisan vote of
249 to 175, we moved one step closer to securing long-overdue federal
protections against such heinous, hate-based crimes.
The Senate must take up the baton to help prevent these kinds of horrific
crimes in the future. I can think of no better way to honor Shepard's
memory than to immediately pass the Matthew Shepard Act.
Sincerely yours
